Hudson War Memorial Library is pleased to announce that in association with Artistes Hudson Artists (AHA) it will be displaying original works of the members of AHA in the library. Twenty artists' creations will be on display starting this week and will be replaced with new works every three months. In the initial grouping there are eighteen paintings and four sculptures. If you have any sculptures you would like to display at the library for sale or not for sale (your choice), can you please contact Susan Snelgrove by e-mail at fore@videotron.ca with the size, medium, price and title. The sculptures would be in the library from April to the end of June.  They are needed as soon as possible!

AHA 2011 Calendar:  The names of the artists for the 2011 calendar have been selected.  These calendars will be sold at our 2010 Fall Show.

AHA Shows: All members must attend 1 meeting before the Fall Show, and 2 meetings before the Spring Show in order to exhibit. It is crucial to have our members present at the General Meetings to be there for Guest Speakers and the exchange of ideas.

Winter Workshops with Gisele Lapalme. There will be only 5 weeks of lessons (starting January 11 - February 8). Composition, drawing & luminosity will be our aim. Maximum 5 per group. To reserve your place confirm via email or phone (450) 424-9074. Monday (am), Tuesday (pm & evening) - oils. Wednesday afternoon Watercolor (starting January 13th)

AHA Workshop - Wednesday, January 20th with Mervyn Dewes, a Hudson artist now retired and long-time Concordia University fine arts professor. "Forms, Space & Expression", from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm - St. Mary's Parish Hall (273 Main Road, Hudson). Participation at these events is free of charge to AHA members. Should members wish to bring guests, there will be a $5.00 charge for each invited guest. Participants should note that there is plenty of parking space available at St.. Mary's parish hall and that the sessions will each start at 7:00 PM sharp. Members are asked to confirm their participation at least one week before each event to John Vazalinskas or by phone at (514) 680-0618.

Kelvin Holland of Raphael Decor in Dorion is mounting a multi-association art exhibition. If any AHA members are interested, contact Kelvin at Raphael Decor 450-510-1678.

Shernya Vininsky will be starting another session of experimental watermedia classes as well as watercolor classes. She is also offering two day workshops. If you are interested contact Shernya at 450-458-6660 or kv@ca.inter.net

AHA Executive Meeting - Wednesday, February 10th.

AHA Workshop - Wednesday, February 17th with Michelle Lanteigne, AHA member & Concordia University fine arts graduate. "Encaustic Painting", presentation and workshop. Participants will be given an opportunity to briefly experiment with the use of encaustic. From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St. Mary's Parish Hall (273 Main Rd., Hudson)
Participation at these events is free of charge to AHA members. Should members wish to bring guests, there will be a $5.00 charge for each invited guest. Hilary Ravenscroft Ford - LEARN WITH A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL: Painting classes in oil, watercolour, acrylic and basic drawing, also specific classes on demand. All cover the basic skills and related technical expertise as well as helping develop the student’s own technique. Sessions:$35 or $250 for 8 lessons, paid in advance. Pleinair - June 1 – Ile Bizard Nature Park. A favourite spot is the gazebo, up behind the chalet, a 5 minute walk up from the parking. Jacques Bizard Bridge. Turn left at the first lights, turn right on de L’Eglise, all the way down to Bord du Lac, turn right and continue to the Pointe-aux-Carrieres parking lot on the left at 2115 Bord du Lac. Metered parking.

Pleinair - June 8 - The Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Sanctuary, Rigaud. 20, rue Bourget. Exit Rigaud on rte 40, direction Ottawa, and follow signs. Donations box.

12 June - 8 July - Linda Denis - painting exhibition "Quebec Landscapes" at À Temps Perdu (76 Cameron, Hudson, Qc).

13 June - Open Air Gallery - largest in Canada! The gallery will feature the work of 46 artists printed on banners that have been installed along the bike path on the Canal de Soulanges. The banners will start at Pointe-des-Cascades and end at Les Coteaux. Three of AHA's artists are represented: SooZ Jillette (pole #2), Carole Lessard (pole #16) and Jacinthe Richard (pole #6). If you are a biker, bring your bike!

Pleinair - June 15 - Park René-Levesque, Lachine. The opposite side from the Fur Trader’s museum. Follow blvd. St Joseph until it crosses the canal, turn right at St Patrick onto Chemin du Canal and go to the end. Metered parking.

Pleinair - June 22 - Parc-nature de l'Ile-de-la-Visitation. 2425 Gouin.
A well-tended park, historical houses in the Old Ahuntsic area; the mill ruins behind the Maison de Meunier * Past Papineau to Gouin [one-way], follow the signs to De Lille. *Best street side parking here.

Pleinair - June 29 - Camp Pioneer, a hobby farm on 600 acres of beautiful forest. Gardens and farm animals, cabins and barns, a lodge filled with antiques. 45 min. from Fairview. Take the 20 or 40 (direction Toronto), exit 2 (Riviere Beaudette), right on rte 325 for 10.6 miles. 2538 Mtee de la Station, Ste Justine de Newton.  $7.50. (450) 764-3560

Pleinair - July 6 - The Ecomuseum, 21,125 Chemin Ste Marie, Ste Anne de Bellevue. Animals are a real challenge, but the owls pose for us. If you are not an animal painter, there is the marsh lake with it's bridge span which has inspired many good paintings. Take exit 41 or 44 on Highway 40, follow the signs for Chemin Ste Marie. Entrance fee: $12.50

Pleinair - July 13 - Coteau-du-lac National Historic Site. One of our first favourite places. Rolling hills overlooking rapids, a canal, cannons, ship skeletons and fishing holes, with a neighbouring millhouse, with a terrasse overlooking the falls. A famous hotdog stand Le Caveau on the corner. Exit 17 off Highway 20 west, south to the end, turn right on Chemin du fleuve, to 308A on the left. $3.90

Pleinair - July 20 – Greenwood, 254 Main Street, Hudson. A beautiful historic home built between 1732-1860. Now a centre for Living History. Their famous phlox should be in bloom this week. Rte 40, direction Ottawa, exit 26, right on Bellevue, left on Main.  ½ km past The Willows. Street parking. Donations box, or annual memberships available on their web site.

Pleinair - July 27 - Cap St  Jacques.  Still a favourite. Large choice of subjects, from barns and animals, gardens, a historic stone house. St Charles north to Gouin, turn left. 20099 Gouin West, and drive all the way to the end to the parking lot at the Ecological Farm. Metered parking.

Pleinair - August 3 - Pointe du Moulin. Ile Perrot. There is still so much to paint here.  On highway 20 to Ile Perrot turn on Don Quichotte right through to the very end. The mill is difficult to paint - it has become a challenge that draws artists back every year.

Pleinair - August 10 - Raimbeault Park, across the street from the Sacre Coeur Hospital at 5400 Gouin, Ville St Laurent. Well tended, winding paths, a bridge and watercourses. Good views of the hospital and across the river. Lots of tame ducks. Parking on St Germain, or on Notre Dame des Anges

Pleinair - August 17  - The Lachine rapids,  in  Lasalle.  The  best view of the churning rapids, in a well-groomed park with small bridges through bird sanctuaries and gnarled trees, against the backdrop of the city.    Take the river road    it  becomes  Lasalle  blvd,  and just east of  Bishop Power is the parking lot, between 5th and 6th ave.

Pleinair -  August 24 - Ile des  Moulins  Park  in Terrebonne. A picturesque island setting with a cluster of old stone buildings. Stroll by the river for the rapids, or across a quiet bay with summer houses, or the historic lane now the hub of gourmet restaurants. Autoroute 25 north, exit  22  E  to rte 344, chemin St Louis. Well sign posted. Note: rte 440 in Laval merges with highway 25.

Pleinair - August 31 - Le Vieux Kitzbuhel -  We  have made special memories now of our last day as an annual ritual  with lunch at an open air restaurant. Plenty to paint, the stone house,  the  gardens. This year let’s cancel the “collection” and say “thanks” instead with a show and tell of our favourite summer works!  Lunches from $8. to $15. Call ahead if you want something special, 514 453 5521.  Rte  20 to blvd. Perrot south. 505 blvd Perrot.
