It all started in 1950 when – James Crockart, reputable architect, industrial designer and art teacher – got together with 5 local artists, Goeff Ommanney, Mel Putnam, Campbell Wood and Vi Bryan, and founded The Lake of Two Mountains Sketching Club. Over the years the club expanded and began holding regular meetings and exhibitions in St. James Memorial Church Hall.
In February 1979 the club was renamed Artistes Hudson Artists (AHA) to reflect the bilingual nature of the region and of our membership. In 1997 AHA had its first inaugural exhibition art in the new Hudson Community Center, Shaar, where all the AHA meetings and exhibitions are now held.
AHA has been a non-profit association since 1950, the purpose of which is to promote the creation of all forms of visual art, and to provide a meeting place for members, while promoting the interest of the community for their work and through exhibitions and workshops.
Today, the AHA has over 75 artists from Hudson and other areas of Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, and its reputation as a major contributor to the region’s culture continues to flourish.
