1-day workshop with Barbara Farren – Alta Prima Portrait Workshop – with limited palette

This method is a form of direct (alla prima) painting in which the artist begins with a monochromatic tonal block-in, placing the details of the head. Then using a wipe-out technique to establish the lights, we proceed immediately, without drying, to develop the painting wet-into-wet from halftones to full colour and highlights. Leaving the darkest transparent areas untouched for the most part.
