Joanna Olson

I enjoy works that are vibrant and charged with energy both in colour and texture. I use oils, acrylics and watercolors equally, appreciating each for their own unique qualities as well as bringing digital technology into the studio.

I am always enthusiastic about trying new concepts, colour combinations and subject matter, and in recent years I have painted small format oil paintings as a reflection of my thoughts and the seasons, using subjects I’ve captured with my camera as reference.

A smaller format allows me to work quickly with oils while an idea is fresh in my mind, though I remain passionate about larger than life paintings.

When not painting, I explore other creative pursuits such as fabric design, collage, illustration and paper arts.
