BFA with distinction Concordia 1995
As a painter, I view my practice as a dynamic conversation between myself, the canvas, and the world around me. I seek to engage viewers in this conversation, inviting them to bring their own interpretations. Just as every conversation is unique, so too is the experience of each painting subjective and open to interpretation.
Ultimately, my paintings serve as visual meditations on the complexities of existence.
I often paint scenarios that are recognizable, yet at the same time enigmatic or implausible, and I love creating a tension between the illusion of the depicted subject and the reference back to the surface of the canvas, inviting viewers to reconsider their relationship to both.
My main concern is with exploring meaning and ideas of the transcendent without resorting directly to mythic or religious narrative. I try to synthesize these influences into visual narratives that invite viewers to engage on multiple levels. I believe that art has the power to serve as a catalyst for intellectual and emotional exploration.
